Yesterday in Brussels, staff of Mistura, the personal envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Western Sahara, met a delegation from the Polisario led by the “Minister of Foreign Affairs”, Mohamed Yeslem Beïssat.
The discussions focused on “recent developments concerning the Sahrawi issue, in particular at the United Nations, and the ongoing efforts to apply international resolutions relating to the decolonization of Western Sahara”, reports the Polisario news agency this Friday. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the ministerial conference between the European Union and the African Union, in which the Polisario Front took part.
Note that Staffan de Mistura also held a meeting in Brussels with the Mauritanian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug. The Belgian capital was also the scene of a meeting between the head of Algerian diplomacy, Ahmed Attaf, and his counterpart from the Polisario.
The mission of the UN emissary is to relaunch the process of settlement of the question of Western Sahara. This file will be examined by the United Nations Security Council next October.
