“The role of the consumer movement in the strengthening of consumer rights” is the theme of the 12th edition of the National Consumer Day organized on Wednesday May 28 in Béni Mellal. This day made it possible to approach the crucial role of consumer protection associations in information, supervision and defense of consumer interests. It has also been an opportunity to mention the partnership that links the ministry to consumer protection federations and the prospects for its development in light of the results of the financial support program study implemented by the Department, since 2015, in favor of the beneficiary federations.
“It is a pride that national consumer day is held in the region of Beni Mellal-Khénifra, a region which is distinguished by the remarkable dynamism which characterizes its associative fabric, in particular consumer protection associations, which are called to play a primordial role in the promotion of the consumer movement of the region, as an actor working as close as citizens”said the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour. He stressed that the implementation of recommendations from this day and the study that was conducted in collaboration with the 3 federations, beneficiaries of financial support, “Will allow consumer protection associations to gain efficiency, strengthen their professional competence while integrating the rules of good governance in their management mode”.
According to the department, the results of this study are generally positive. The actions taken within the framework of the said program have contributed to strengthening consumer protection and promoting the consumer movement at the national level. However, the consumer dynamic remains perfectible. A stronger involvement of institutions and a strengthening of synergies between stakeholders would be necessary to consolidate these achievements and promote a more marked evolution of the consumer movement nationwide.
