In the campaign against Moroccan tomatoes exported to Spain, the Coordination of farmers and breeding organizations (COAG) denounced the presence on the displays of cargoes from the Sahara, labeled as a product of Morocco. In a statement, the organization has announced a next meeting with European Union officials, to demand the application of the EU Court of Justice decision (CJEU) concerning the control of labels on products from the South Provinces.
In October 2024the CJEU has rejected the remedies of the European Commission concerning agricultural and fishing agreements with Morocco, including the Sahara. The jurisdiction thus confirmed its judgment of September 29, 2021, in a case between the CE and the Polisario. In this context, the coag called the twenty-seven to take measures against what it considers “unfair competition”.
Wind standing against economic exchanges between Morocco and Spain, the Spanish agricultural lobby has gone to the Polisario, accusing importers of Moroccan tomatoes for having circumvented the payment of 71 million euros in taxes, over the past five years.
Last MarchHowever, the European Commission said the absence of all tax fraud. In response to a written question of the Spanish deputy of the popular group, Carmen Crespo, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Christophe Hansen, stressed that these imports respected “the terms of the 2012 association agreement”.
