Defeat a traffic attempt of 3.85 t of cannabis resin

5.7 million tourist arrivals (+23%) at the end of April

The elements of the police under the regional security police station of the city of Oued Zem defeated on Sunday in coordination with their counterparts in Khouribga and on the basis of information of the Directorate General for Territory Surveillance (DGST), an attempted traffic of 3.85 tonnes of cannabis resin. Four individuals were arrested, for their alleged link with a criminal network of international trafficking in drugs and psychotropic drugs.

According to a security source, the suspects, aged between 23 and 35, were caught in the act of trafficking in this drug cargo aboard two utility vehicles, during simultaneous security operations near Oued Zem. The respondents, equipped with white weapons, refused to comply and opposed a violent resistance, before being apprehended by the elements of the police who also seized the cargo.

Faced with the refusal to comply and the violent resistance shown by one of the suspects, a police officer was forced to make use of his service weapon and draw a summons, which made it possible to neutralize the danger. The excavation of the vehicles allowed the seizure of several bundles, totaling 3.85 tonnes, as well as white weapons and false mineralogical plates.

The scoring of suspects at the level of the national security database revealed that two of them were the subject of several national research mandates for their alleged involvement in criminal cases relating to drug trafficking and violent crimes. Individuals were placed in police custody at the disposal of the current judicial inquiry.
