The French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, recalled this Monday in Nanterre the existing systems to combat religious radicalization, by urging the prefectures to “voluntarism”. After a report made on the Muslim Brotherhood last week, President Emmanuel Macron is indeed expecting Matignon’s “new proposals”. Traveling to the Hauts-de-Seine prefecture, the Minister said he wanted “Make the state more effective in its fight against Islamism”, defending the existing system since 2019 since 2019 of radical Islamism (CLIR).
Made up of representatives of state services, these bodies at the departments are described by the interministerial committee for delinquency and radicalization as having the objective of “attacking Islamist ecosystems” through “a diagnosis of the state of Islamism” on a territorial level, to “centralize” information on this subject and to carry out “monitoring of the offenses observed”. In this sense, Bruno Retailleau seeks to deploy more reinforced cells, in areas designated as more concerned by “Islamist entrism”.
In other words, it is a question of strengthening field controls, especially in sports clubs or cultural associations, which Bruno Retailleau previously pointed out to be means of “infiltration” of the Muslim Brotherhood within society. Unconvinced of the presentation in a defense committee, last week, Emmanuel Macron expects his minister to “floor on new proposals”.
Shortly after this meeting, Bruno Retailleau announced before the senators “a better organization of the state” in “intelligence”. This Monday, he said that “two new services” of the ministry of being mobilized, including the National Directorate of Territorial Intelligence (DNRT), or the Directorate of Public Liberties, which should have “a role of administrative prosecution”.
In particular, it will be a question of “collecting evidence and setting up files in order to put in place administrative hindrance measures”, including through the “end of municipal subsidies, the closure of certain places, the indictment of people who call for hatred”.
