“There is nobody better than me to win the CAN!”

The coach of the national football team, Walid Regragui, expressed his confidence in Morocco’s ability to win the African Cup of Nations 2025 today, which will take place on Moroccan soil at the end of this year.

At a press conference at the Mohammed VI football complex in Maamoura, where he presented the list of players selected for friendly matches against Tunisia (June 6) and Benin (June 9) at the Grand Stade de Fès, Regragui responded to rumors on his possible departure from the national team by declaring: “You will not find anyone better than me to win the African Cup of Nations.”

“If someone thinks that Guardiola, Ancelotti or Klopp can win this trophy, they should convince them. I am able to do so; You will not find a better candidate than me to win the title. ”

Regragui explained that “the two friendly matches are a test to assess the capabilities of players for CAN”. He added that “the choice of Tunisia and Benin is not trivial, because these African teams have solid defenses, which will help us prepare for the tournament”.

Regarding the absence of some players, Regragui said: “We are not here to seduce or run after the players. They must want to represent Morocco ”. “Our mission is to select the best players who choose to defend the colors of Morocco with passion. If a player is not summoned, it simply means that he has not yet won his place, or that he explores other options, “calling for supporting those who have chosen to wear the jersey of the national team.

Regarding the absence of several defenders, the coach said that “90 % of defenders are absent due to injury, but that gives us the opportunity to test new elements in this position and to confirm our choices after these two games,” stressing that “these absences coincide with the period of friendly matches”.

He also said that “we have a project to build a solid defense, and that is why I try different combinations to find the best”.

Regragui stressed that “the framework of the national team is stable, but adjustments are necessary because of the preparation of players, injuries and choices of the technical staff,” adding that “to win the CAN, it takes good players, an enthusiastic audience, and above all, a spirit of victory which must be anchored in the team, because it is a crucial element to progress”.
