Informal: less weight, more value

How global climate television is rasting in Morocco

The informal sector saw its contribution to national production outside agriculture and public administration fell to 10.9 % in 2023, against 15 % in 2014, according to the High Commissioner for Planning (HCP).

Despite an increase in absolute value (+22.3 % to 226.3 MMDH), its relative share decreases. Annual turnover reaches 526.9 MMDH (+28.7 % over nine years), for moderate annual growth (2.6 %). In added value, the sector now weighs 13.6 % of the national economy outside agriculture and public administration. Trade remains dominant but loses ground (30 % in 2023 against 34.7 % in 2014), for the benefit of services (24 %) and construction (18.4 %)

In industry, food takes precedence over textiles. The informal sector remains largely self -centered, but its exchanges with the formal sector are progressing significantly.
