The curtain fell, Saturday evening in Marrakech, on the 25th edition of the Caftan Week, with a large parade celebrating the Moroccan Sahara, with the participation of 14 renowned creators and fashion enthusiasts, thus devoting Morocco as a global reference to Caftan.
Organized by the magazine Women of Morocco, this event held this year under the theme “Sahara, inheritance in sewing”, transformed the ocher city into the capital of haute couture, through a poetic immersion in the universe of the south, from the dunes to traditional jewelry, passing through the fabrics inspired by oases.
The fence parade offered a spellbinding show, where unique pieces have followed by the podium with modernity and Sahrawi traditions, testifying to the invaluable know-how of Moroccan craftsmen and the creativity of designers who drew their inspiration from the heritage of the Moroccan Sahara.
Speaking on this occasion, the Minister of Tourism, Crafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, stressed that “Morocco is today a global reference of Caftan, a living heritage which contributes to the cultural influence of the kingdom internationally”.
To this end, she wanted to congratulate the Moroccan craftsmen who work hard to create pieces of rare beauty, by perpetuating secular traditions while reinventing them.
For its part, Ichrak Moubsit, director of the magazine Women of Morocco, noted that this anniversary edition was “marked by a strong desire to enhance the professions of the South of Morocco and to highlight the treasures often unknown to the general public”.
In a statement to the map, she praised “the diversity of creations presented and the commitment of designers to transmit a precious heritage, through a constant dialogue between tradition and innovation”.
This 25th edition was distinguished by a rich program comprising exhibitions of jewelry and traditional Saharawi clothes, masterclasses, meetings between fashion professionals and a highlighting of art professions carried by the women and men of the Moroccan Sahara.
Launched in 1996, the Caftan Week is today an international showcase of the Moroccan caftan, a celebration of elegance, identity and craft engineering, serving a heritage in perpetual reinvention.
